Goals
- Support and enhance the efforts of literacy and adult education providers
- Build awareness of literacy issues
- Identify and respond to emerging literacy needs and gaps in services
- Improve the literacy of the workforce
- Research implementing ALERT (Adult Literacy Education Resource Training)
Specifics
- The chapter is becoming a provider of literacy services by providing training for tutors and participating in matching learners with tutors
- The chapter is a part of the Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee which raises awareness of literacy issues in the county
- The chapter is working in partnership with other literacy providers in the county to ensure delivery of services to a broader spectrum of citizens
Volunteers are needed for the following:
- Financial support of projects
- Tutors for those wanting to learn to read
- Readers for local schools and day care centers (Baby Talk)
- Visitors for mothers of newborns at Baptist Medical Center (Baby Talk)
