Goals
- – Support and enhance the efforts of literacy and adult education providers

- – Build awareness of literacy issues
- – Identify and respond to emerging literacy needs and gaps in services
- – Improve the literacy of the workforce
- – Research implementing ALERT (Adult Literacy Education Resource Training)
Specifics
- – The chapter provides tutor training and
matches tutors with learners.
- – The chapter is a sponsor of the Great Grown-Up Spelling
Bee, which raises awareness of literacy issues in the county
- – The chapter is working in partnership
with other literacy providers in the county to ensure delivery
of services to a broader spectrum
of citizens
Volunteers are needed for the following:
- – Financial support.
- – Tutoring.
- – Book Buddies to read at local schools and day care centers.
- – Visitors for mothers of newborns at Baptist Medical Center.
- – Office work and assistance with mailings.
